Pre-CanSkate

The Pre-CanSkate program is an un-parented program designed for children 3 to 5 years of age, who have never skated before or who are not yet confident on the ice. This program teaches children the basics of how to get up when they fall down, how to move forward, basic backward movement and how to stop.

Pre-CanSkate and CanSkate run at the same time and have the same registration process.  When registering, select CanSkate.  The children will be divided up into groups of Pre-CanSkate and CanSkate on their first day.

CanSkate

The CanSkate program is geared to beginners of all ages…children, adults, newcomers to Canada and athletes with a disability (AWAD). Whether you are looking to improve basic skating skills for figure skating,  hockey, ringette or speed skating, or  wish to skate for recreation, fitness or fun, CanSkate will get you there.

Conducted in a fun, friendly environment, the CanSkate program showcases a comprehensive series of balance, control and agility skills, using a nationally-tested and proven curriculum that supports skater success in developing stronger basic skills on the ice.

Millions of Canadians, including World and Olympic figure skating champions and National Hockey League stars, have taken their first steps on the ice with the CanSkate program. Offered at clubs and skating schools across Canada and delivered by NCCP coaches, CanSkate will help you realize your skating goals.

Parent and Tot CanSkate

Who is this program for?

If your skater is between the ages of 2-4 and is a little on the timid side, this is the perfect program to get your skater started!  This program will allow parents to work with their skater and a coach to help develop their skating ability, and confidence.  Parents will be hands on assisting skaters to stand up and move forward.  The parent is instructed on the best methods of hands-on assistance for their child.  Once the skater is up and moving on their own the parent will no longer be needed on the ice.  The length of time can differ by skater.

Skaters need to wear a winter jacket, hockey helmet, skates (ideally hockey/figure skating), gloves and snow pants.

Parents must also wear a helmet and skates.

With the Parent and Tot program, both parent and child must each pay the Skate Canada Liability fee.  It also must be the same parent that attends each CanSkate session.
